A Winter Escape in the Macedon Ranges.

While people often associate a winter getaway with red wine by an open fire, there is so much more on offer in the Macedon Ranges to entice you through the winter months.

Spa Country

The Macedon Ranges are located right in the middle of spa country, and there is an abundance of local day spas to indulge in some me time. What better way to get rid of the winter blues than a hot stone massage or soak in a warm bath? We recommend Maiaveda or Ellenis in Kyneton for some well-deserved pampering. At Lawson Lodge, we also offer onsite massage and beauty treatments. The perfect addition to your booking.

Winter Bush Walks

There is nothing quite as beautiful as a crisp frosty morning as the sun starts to rise and the fog lifts. We recommend an early morning walk to the Memorial Cross at Mt Macedon or Hanging Rock. Watching the sunrise on a clear winter morning is magical. Download the All Trails app to discover the amazing bush walks in our area.

Art Spaces

As a haven for local artists, the Macedon Ranges is home to some fantastic art spaces. The Old Auction House in Kyneton is both a gallery and offers a variety of hands-on classes, ideal for rainy days. Piper Street hosts including Cusack and Cusack Gallery, Stockroom and Colours of White. Closer to home, visit The Gallery at Mt Macedon. Over the June long weekend, Woodend hosts the Woodend Winter Arts Festival, kicking off with fireworks at Racecourse Reserve. We also recommend checking out the Kyneton Town Hall events. Featuring comedians, music and theatre productions all year round.

Farmers Markets

Our local farmer's markets continue all year round and are the perfect place to sample our outstanding local produce. Rotating between Kyneton, Woodend, Riddells Creek and Lancefield, you’ll find one each Saturday of the month.

Mount Macedon Trading Post

If you don’t want to venture too far, you can also find a sample of local goodies at Mt Macedon Trading Post, with an amazing selection of house-baked and locally sourced food and wine.

Their beef pies are to die for, the perfect comfort food on a cold day.

Food and Wine

It is no surprise that you are spoilt for choice when it comes to food and wine options in the Macedon Ranges, and it is hard to single out just one. In winter, the ideal destination offers cozy spaces, open fires and comfort food. Ticking all the boxes for me is Miss M’s Lounge in Kyneton. This cozy tapas and cocktail lounge is the perfect spot to enjoy a rainy afternoon.

Fook Shing, also in Kyneton, offers modern Asian cuisine and a fabulous cocktail list. New to the Macedon Ranges is Mount Monument Winery and art space. The views from the deck are incredible. We also love the brewery and restaurant, The Lost Watering Hole in Lancefield. Sit by the large wood fire and enjoy their beer tasting paddle.

Of course, if your perfect idea of a winter holiday is staying in with a movie and a good book we’ve certainly got you covered at Lawson Lodge. With a 32 seat cinema, private sports bar, 4 fire places and an extensive library, you wont need to venture too far. We stock a hand picked selection of local beer and wine, so sit back and enjoy. You can even watch that sunrise over our lake… priceless.
