Food lovers guide to Macedon

Macedon is a gorgeous little village, nestled on the edge of Mount Macedon. While Macedon is a quiet little town, it has some hidden gems which are absolutely worth the visit.

Mr Macedon is our pick for breakfast or lunch. Serving great coffee, and  serving healthy, local produce, Mr Macedon is a favourite amongst locals. The bagels are a great choice any time of the day! They also have great vegan and vegetarian options.

Ida Red is the go to for wood fired pizza in the region. Handcrafted sourdough bases topped with the beautiful fresh ingredients, plucked from their outdoor garden. If you are hoping to eat in, Olive Jones has an amazing outdoor eating area, which will keep the kids busy for hours. They often have life music in the courtyard, so check out their Facebook page for updates. If you are after traditional country pub fare, you can’t go past the Macedon Railway Hotel.

For the wine lovers you can’t go past Mt Towrong Vinyard. Serving amazing Italian style wines from their family owned and run cellar door, this venue is an eclectic mix of industrial and retro styles. They offer a wide range of wines for tasting, as well as beautiful antipasto platters. If you plan to eat in we definitely recommend booking a table. You may even be able to sample their gin, which inspired by locally foraged botanicals and is pretty delicious.

Next time you stay at Lawson Lodge, why not stop past one of these great venues an see what Macedon is all about, or ask us to organise you a personalised foodie tour.
